Well a study published recently in the British Medical Journal reports the results of a trial on the effects of the Alexander Technique when used to treat back pain. The study was spread across a number of different doctors surgery’s in Southampton and Bristol.
The Alexander Technique is a system which aims to alleviate back pain by limiting muscle spasm, strengthening postural muscles, improving coordination and flexibility, and decompressing the spine.
A year down the line and the patients who received 24 lessons in the Alexander Technique reported three days of back pain a month, compared to 21 days per month for those who didn’t receive treatment. The group who received treatment also reported better function and quality of life.
